Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue said in a statement , `Judge Magnuson`s rejection of Florida`s efforts to seek a judicial decree for higher downstream flows that were not supported by science or the law is a major victory for Georgia.
Perdue added, `Any kind of higher guaranteed flow for Florida would have put a strain on Georgia communities up and down the Chattahoochee River. We always felt the use of the Endangered Species Act was just a ruse to try and wring more water out of Georgia. Judge Magnuson recognized that and issued a common-sense ruling that allows the three states to continue meaningful talks.`
News from Lake Lanier remains quiet after several months of the water level staying around full pool. No complaints here! Currently the water level is at 1070.28.

There were two deaths reported at Lake Lanier last week. A girl was flown to Grady Hospital after falling off a tube and ran over by a passing pontoon boat. The pontoon boat swerved to avoid another fallen tuber and did not see the second girl. The girl later died at Grady. Two days later a 67 yr old boater jumped off his boat and went under the water. Divers searched for the body and it was recovered the next day. These are stark reminders about the dangers of boating and swimming without life jackets. As the 4th of July is fast approaching, Lake Lanier will become very crowded with people out having a fun time at the lake. Don’t leave your common sense and life jackets on the dock! Be courteous and cautious when on Lake Lanier this holiday weekend. Accidents while boating can happen very quickly so be alert! Have a safe, fun weekend at Lake Lanier. Memorial Day weekend was a mix of clouds, sun, and some spotty showers. Despite the clouds, people came out to the lake to enjoy the holiday. Lake Lanier was a safe place this weekend with very few accidents and only a couple of citations issued. Four boaters were issued citations by the Georgia DNR for boating under the influence. Elsewhere in the state, there were 7 citations issued for boating under the influence. A tubing accident resulted in minor injuries. Also minor injuries were reported after two personal watercrafts collided. As Memorial Day marks the start of summer, we can only hope that the visitors to Lake Lanier continue to be safe around the water.
