2010 will go down as a great year for Lake Lanier. The water returned to Lake Lanier and so did the crowds. Businesses around the lake saw more customers despite the recession as the lake level stayed high all year including the hot summer months.

As 2011 is approaching we will continue to monitor the efforts of CoE, local and state governments, and concerned citizens to help keep the water level high at Lake Lanier. Thanks to all of you for making 2010 a successful year.

A missing autistic teenager was found safe afloat a personal watercraft after becoming separated from his father Tuesday evening in Forsyth County. DNR officials located the missing teen in Hall County near Aqualand Marina at 12:30am Wednesday. The teenager was riding a separate PWC when he became separated from his father who was also riding a PWC. The teenager reported being cold but otherwise okay. The recent rain at Lake Lanier has helped boost the water level. Currently Lake Lanier is at 1069.12 which is 22.56 inches below full pool. The Haunted Nights of Lights begins at Lake Lanier Islands on Friday night and goes until Halloween Night. It is a driving tour similar to the Magical Nights of Light but with skeletons, witches and other ghoulish characters lurking in the shadows. Admission is $20/car Mon.-Thurs.; $25/car Fri.-Sun.; $40/van (up to 15-passenger capacity). Additional charges for Haunted Village activities. See website for all-inclusive packages: www.lakelanierislands.com. The water level at Lake Lanier has started to slip. The lake is currently 1.29 feet below full pool and falling. Parts of the Chattahoochee River basin are declared "abnormally" dry for this time of year. With all of the rain that happened over the winter and spring months, people are scratching their heads wondering where all the rain has gone. Only spotty showers have frequented north Georgia over the past month. With high temperatures, water evaporation has increased along with people watering plants. How long will Lake Lanier continue to drop and is this the start of another dry period for North Georgia.
